Amilla Maldives Welcomes Marc Reader as General Manager
Amilla Maldives announces new General Manager Marc Reader
Marc Reader has been appointed as the new General Manager of Amilla Maldives. Amilla welcomes Reader with over 30 years of international hospitality experience. In his new role, he will be tasked with growing the resort’s international market presence, delivering exceptional guest experiences and nurturing staff.
Previously Reader was at the helm of Finolhu and Huvafen Fushi, both located in the Baa Atoll, before he came to Amilla.
“Marc’s extensive international and commercial experience will be key to further growing Amilla’s presence on the global luxury resort market,” said Amilla Maldives’ General Manager, Marc Reader.
Professional background of the reader
Marc Reader served as General Manager of Finolhu, Baa Atoll between December 2016 and April 2023. He engineered the turnaround of the resort during his time in charge with major renovations including a USD 40 million refurbishment and repositioning as a luxury lifestyle destination.
He also oversaw the development and implementation of brand strategies, resort operations, culinary concepts and the launch of a groundbreaking all-butler service.
From 2007 to 2009 he was General Manager and Director of Business Development of Huvafen Fushi Maldives and later Group Director of Special Projects of PER AQUUM Retreats, Resorts and Residences in Singapore, where he assisted in the opening of Niyama Private Islands.
Reader has experience in working on high-end hospitality projects at various levels of management. He ran the Lancemore Mansion in Werribee Park, Australia, now converted into a luxury hotel resort. Reader also has experience in the restaurant industry, having co-founded a number of food and beverage ventures in Sydney.
In 2024 he was Brand Ambassador for Sepia International and Fantasy Foods, focusing on distribution, commercial development and network development with luxury resort properties in the Maldives.
The Reader gained leadership and strategic management abilities through postgraduate study at the Australian Institute of Business. He also took up culinary arts and hospitality management at Westminster Kingsway College, London.
Expanding Amilla Maldives’ market reach
Reader will use his international network and experience in the luxury resort industry to grow Amilla Maldives’ market reach.
Reader said of his new role: “Amilla Maldives is a unique island with great potential. “My aim is to work closely with our partners and agents to assist their needs, to help grow the business and to raise Amilla’s profile as a premier luxury resort destination.
In the role of General Manager of Amilla Maldives, Reader will be concentrating on strengthening Amilla’s market presence in the key source markets, as well as developing relationships with tour operators, travel agents, destination management companies and other relevant business partners.
At the same time, he’ll be on the ground, ensuring Amilla’s staff receive the support and guidance they need to consistently deliver excellent service to guests.
“Our guests expect extraordinary personal luxury experiences from Amilla and I am looking forward to helping our team to deliver on that promise,” Reader said.
Reader will leverage his professional connections and expertise to develop Amilla Maldives’ market reach, expanding the resort’s footprint with relevant business partners, and driving internal change to enhance the guest experience the resort offers.
A unique island escape in the middle of the ocean
In the middle of the ocean, Amilla Maldives offers an exclusive island experience, surrounded by a house reef, the Blue Hole and ancient banyan trees.
“I think the future of luxury hospitality is about giving guests the ultimate flexibility to create their own unique personal experience, rather than delivering a ‘product’,” Reader said. I believe Amilla Maldives is ideally positioned to spearhead this shift in the Maldivian luxury resort market.
The Reader looks forward to working with his team and business partners to build on Amilla’s strengths and grow the resort’s presence with tourism business partners and enhance the guest experience.
His arrival at Amilla Maldives is a further reflection of the resort’s ongoing commitment to invest in key relationships, provide excellent support to employees and deliver truly unique and special experiences to its guests.
