Appointing of Harry Green Longin as the Marine Biologist for Finolhu Island
A Seaside Collection resort, Finolhu, has appointed a new Marine Biologist Harry Green Longin, making another step in terms of commitment to the conservation of marine life and the implementation of sustainable environmental strategies within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll. Harry has a lot of experience related to marine conservation, sustainability, and creation of educative experiences for the guests. Prior to working at Finolhu Island Maldives, he was employed at The Westin Maldives as the Marine Biologist and Scuba Instructor, developing the educative programmes on marine life and carrying out the reef conservation projects.
The island Finolhu is found in one of the regions which carry great ecological importance in the Maldives. The hotel has undertaken a coral restoration project that seeks to ensure the protection and rejuvenation of the reefs in the region of Baa Atoll. This project involves two underwater nurseries housing over 40 coral trees and 2,000 coral fragments. Some of these corals have even been adopted and transferred through the efforts of guests and employees of the hotel.This project has achieved some outstanding results so far since more than 1,500 coral fragments have been transferred to the local reefs. The purpose of the project is to regenerate and maintain ecological marine environments that can withstand threats such as coral bleaching and warming of water.
In his new role, Harry will be responsible for the marine conservation activities carried out by Finolhu. This includes reef restoration, sustainability, and education activities. It can be done by joining various programs such as the Coral Adoption Program and the Coral Conservation Course, where the guests get involved in scientific studies of the reefs and education on the importance of conserving the marine environment. By increasing conservation activities, Finolhu gets their guests involved in environmental management while at the same time saving the underwater life of Baa Atoll.
