Gov’t Plans Construction of 20 New Resorts in Maldives

During his visit to Kolhumadulu Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced intentions to initiate the construction of a minimum of 20 resorts across the country within the next year, signaling a notable economic boost for the Maldives.

Speaking to the people of Madifushi Island, President Muizzu emphasized his government's unwavering dedication to supporting the island's development goals. He also emphasized a key focus on strengthening the tourism industry, with the goal of establishing the Maldives as a top tourist spot that attracts investors and guarantees lasting success.

In talks with local councils, the President stressed the need to focus on development projects that meet community needs. He restated the government's commitment to empowering councils with more financial independence to boost economic growth locally.

President Muizzu also detailed plans to tackle housing shortages by introducing loans and implementing initiatives to improve the financial stability of state-owned enterprises.

The people living on Madifushi Island expressed their urgent requirements, such as enhancing infrastructure, coastal safeguarding, and ensuring access to clean water. Suggestions they put forward, like bringing neighboring islands into Madifushi's authority and building a causeway connecting Dhiyamigili and Madifushi, were carefully reviewed and discussed.

President Muizzu's trip to Madifushi Island is the third stop on his extensive tour, demonstrating the government's active involvement with local communities to promote inclusive development and economic prosperity throughout the Maldives.
