Maldives welcomed its 1 millionth tourist for the year 2025 on 7th June 2025, the quickest that a million tourists have been welcomed by the country in our country's history. The 1 millionth tourist of 2025 was Kajal Singh, who is an Indian passport holder, and she arrived in the Maldives today on IndiGo flight 6E 1131 at 12:55. She is arriving on honeymoon to Malahini Kuda Bandos. She is traveling to the Maldives for the first time.
Visit Maldives, together with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), organized a special celebratory event at Velana International Airport to celebrate this historic milestone.
"This success overwhelms us with great pride, bearing witness to the successful achievement of our destination marketing that captures the real spirit of the Maldivian experience," said Minister for Tourism and Environment, Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim. "Reaching one million visitors at this record-breaking speed is a clear indicator of our worldwide popularity, and I seize this moment to express my sincere gratitude to all the endless efforts of every hardworking member in the tourism industry whose handwork made this success story possible."
In a spirit of the nation's dedication towards sustainability within the environment, one millionth visitor Kajal was welcomed to join President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's "Five Million Trees Planting Program." Kajal had planted a tree at Hulhulé under this national effort to address climate change, enrich biodiversity, and create an avenue for a greener Maldives for generations to come.
"This success is a clear sign that indeed we are moving in the right direction towards achieving H.E President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's national tourist arrival target for this year of 2.3 million," stated CEO & MD of MMPRC, Mr Ibrahim Shiuree. "We are excited to celebrate this milestone with all our stakeholders whose commitment and hard work are priceless. Our commitment does not stop here; we are constantly striving to further develop the tourism industry in the Maldives and make the Sunny Side of Life a paradise for all."
The achievement of 1 millionth visitor in 2025 is a matter of pride for Maldivian tourism since it reflects the strong momentum that has been created by MMPRC's focused promotional activities. With the aftermath of the record success of just-concluded Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025, where the Maldives shocked the global travel world with its robust and vibrant charm, this milestone is the testament of our enhanced global footprint and solidified key industry alliances. Supporting these activities, the current extensive Summer Campaign with multi-market reach in Europe and other major international markets is positively generating increased visibility and inducing advance bookings for summer and future winter holidays. MMPRC marketing efforts through effective campaigns, collaborations, and focused promotions are considerably raising the Maldives' international brand, enhancing confidence in bookings, and establishing it as a first-rate, year-round holiday destination.
