Maldives Collaborate with USAID on Eco-Tourism Growth

The Ministry of Tourism revealed a strategy to boost eco-tourism efforts in collaboration with USAID, with the goal of expanding and improving Maldives’ tourism industry. The initiative will emphasize the promotion of sustainable tourism practices and activities.

Eco-tourism emphasizes visiting natural areas that emphasize conservation, education, and the welfare of local communities. It provides a sustainable option to conventional tourism, reducing adverse effects on the environment and highlighting a destination's distinct biodiversity and cultural legacy.

The Ministry of Tourism in the Maldives will create a list of sites that provide ideal natural settings for eco-tourism activities. Plans include developing sustainable tourism facilities in these chosen locations.

The initiative also aims to create a ranking system for tourism service providers, assessing their environmental sustainability practices. Additionally, the Ministry will allocate specific zones in the Maldives for eco-tourism activities.

The project will officially launch at a special event planned for this evening. This effort demonstrates the Maldives' dedication to promoting sustainable tourism practices and attracting environmentally conscious travelers by expanding its appeal.
