South LUX* Gregory Burns, a renowned athlete, motivational speaker, and artist, will be the Artist in Residence at Ari Atoll from May 10 to May 23, 2023. Ari Atoll is a beloved resort of The Lux Collective.
Gregory shifted into IronMan competitions after winning multiple gold medals and setting world records in swimming throughout three Paralympic Games. Gregory's perseverance and discipline served as an inspiration to many. His childhood polio infection inspired him to prioritise movement and to use sports and the arts to express himself. He received numerous honours for his vibrant and expressive paintings over the course of more than three decades, including the prestigious 2016 Sports Artist of the Year Award and a commission from the International Olympic Committee to produce artwork for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This May, Gregory will personally mentor resort visitors as they learn from the master himself as part of his Artist in Residence programme. He will impart a range of skills, including painting, drawing, and more. "The sea has been my home ever since I was a young child. Swimming, surfing, scuba diving, and drawing are all fluid activities that make us happy and improve our day, said Gregory Burns.
The sessions will be place outside at the resort, surrounded by lush vegetation and the stunning Indian Ocean, and are open to all visitors regardless of their level of experience. Participants will be able to produce their own original pieces of art with Gregory's direction.
Also, LUX* South Ari Atoll will organise a joint painting session with Gregory and the esteemed local painters as part of its ongoing mission to improve the community and foster self-expression through art.
