The Fari Islands, Pontiac Land's most recent project, will be developed with the help of a $120 million green loan from DBS Bank. Pontiac Land is a Singapore-based developer and investor in luxury hotel projects. Two resorts are covered by the green loans: The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands and Patina Maldives, Fari Islands.
With the help of DBS, HSBC, and UOB as Green Structuring Banks, Pontiac Land was able to secure its first green loan. This occasion also marks DBS, UOB, and HSBC's first green loans to the Maldives as well as the first loan for the country's hotel sector. This significant accomplishment demonstrates Pontiac Land's commitment to building an environmentally responsible future that will benefit coming generations.
After receiving the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Advanced Certificates, which show that the resort is ready for zero carbon emissions, the conversion of the loan became viable. The villas and other amenities at Fari Islands feature flat roofs instead of the typical thatched roof structures seen in the Maldives, allowing for the installation of solar panels. The Fari Islands now have certain amenities that are entirely solar-powered. Pontiac is looking for more alternative energy options.
With partnerships and innovative guest programmes targeted at coral propagation, turtle rehabilitation, ecological study, and the reuse of marine plastic, visitors to the resort can also get involved in marine conservation and sustainability. The hotel features an organic permaculture garden where pesticide-free vegetables is grown and food waste is converted by bio-digesters into organic fertiliser. Fari Islands is home to Roots, a renowned plant-based restaurant that follows the root-to-leaf philosophy and inspires visitors to lead more conscientious lives.
The newest project by Pontiac Land in the Maldives establishes a standard for sustainable growth in the hospitality sector and emphasises the expanding trend among investors and developers to prioritise sustainability. Pontiac Land and DBS Bank show the capacity of sustainable business practises to produce substantial impact while still providing a world-class, luxurious guest experience through their dedication to responsible development and green financing initiatives.
