26th Anniversary Tribute to the Rannamaari Shipwreck at Dhawa Ihuru

On 24th July, Dhawa Ihuru invites ocean suckers, divers, and culture campaigners to join the periodic Rannamaari Dive Fest, marking 26 times since the Rannamaari Shipwreck came part of the islet’s fabulous house reef.

Just 25 twinkles by complimentary motorboat from Velana International Airport, Dhawa Ihuru is a refreshingly bold and laid-aft islet escape, girdled by one of the Maldives’ most vibrant house reefs.

Sitting at the edge of the house reef lies the Rannamaari Shipwreck, a sunken dredger that has, since 1999, bloomed into a flourishing artificial reef bulging with coral, nanny harpies, batfish, and more. This iconic wreck is now a famed dive point and a symbol of reef rejuvenescence.

What to anticipate at Rannamaari Dive Fest 2025? As one of the crucial highlight conditioning of the event, you're invited to explore this aquatic legend – Rannamaari wreck on guided dives led by Dhawa Ihuru’s PADI Dive preceptors.

Guests will also witness a full- day event of marine conservation talk, Save the Reef educational snorkelling exertion, islet- inspired artistic, good and culinary shops, kiddies' corners, beachfront evening blend party as part of the Rannamaari Dive Fest festivity.

Celebrate further than Two- decade of Reef Restoration at Dhawa Ihuru

Well- known for its character as an environmentally conscious and green resort, Dhawa Ihuru was among the first to apply electric reef system. The Barnacle design, grounded on the barnacle shell, about 4 measures altitudinous and 6 measures across, located in 6 measures depth, was started before in November 1996, and has come an iconic symbol for Dhawa's restoration.

The alternate electric reef was created shortly after in 1998 called the Necklace and in 2001, a third electric reef was created on the house reef of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru called the Lotus – the family resort of Dhawa Ihuru, just five- nanosecond down by speed boat. Since also, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru have expanded coral restoration to includemicro-fragmentation, medial water nursery and coral rope nurseries. During Rannamaari Dive Fest, guests will be suitable to join Save the Reef educational snorkelling exertion and help save the ecosystem. During the snorkel guests can see the marine conservation systems, led by our resident marine biologists from the Banyan Tree Marine Laboratory platoon.
