As part of Sun Siyam Resorts' corporate-wide sustainability program, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi prioritises sustainability in all aspects of the guest experience. The resort also conducts a number of ongoing initiatives to support community development, gender equality, and women's empowerment while promoting biodiversity and environmental balance and reducing its carbon footprint.
The most recent visitor experience took place on March 25 during this year's EARTH HOUR, where islanders and resort visitors were invited to view a brief video presentation about how the planet and climate are changing, which was followed by a traditional Maldivian BoduBeru performance by local staff.
In order to emphasise the significance of the resort's sustainability objectives, the all-day dining Iru restaurant participated in Earth Hour celebrations by showcasing Maldivian produce, local fish, and local handcrafts known as "Laajehun." Sun Siyam Iru Fushi hopes to reduce energy consumption and advance the creation of eco-friendly technologies by participating in Earth Hour in order to protect the environment for future generations.
In addition, the island resort regularly holds tree-planting ceremonies for its local residents and visitors. To date, 147 trees have been planted, and the resort hopes to plant 1,000 trees by the end of the year. With the aid of the resort's landscaping, gardening, and sustainability experts, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi discovered a number of tree species that are indigenous to the Maldives and can thrive within the island's ecosystem.
Sun Siyam Iru Fushi's Resort Manager, Abdulla Atham, expressed his happiness about the resort's commitment to establishing a more sustainable future for the Maldives. He stated that the resort recognizes its responsibility to preserve the natural environment of the Maldives and has actively supported various initiatives, including a tree planting program and the formation of a Sustainability Committee. The resort also loves engaging its guests in sustainable activities.
The resort's sustainable tourism efforts were recently recognized with the prestigious Travelife Gold Certificate. This certification underscores the resort's commitment to improving economic and social impacts for the local community, protecting human rights and fair labor practices, preserving animal welfare and biodiversity, and minimizing its environmental footprint.
Sun Siyam Resorts is committed to sustainable and responsible operations in the Maldives and Sri Lanka, offering guests authentic experiences. The Sun Siyam Cares program prioritizes sustainability through various initiatives, such as reducing energy and water consumption, managing waste to minimize plastic usage, supporting community development, and investing in renewable energy. The program also focuses on conservation efforts, preserving local heritage and cultural practices. By adhering to these sustainability practices, the resort aims to minimize its environmental impact and carbon footprint while contributing to the socio-economic well-being of the communities in which it operates.
