Maldives: Maldives Corporation CEO/MD Ibrahim Shiuree elected to PATA’s Executive Board
Ibrahim Shiuree, the newly appointed CEO/MD of Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), has been elected to the Executive Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).
The new role builds on his role as a member of the PATA Board of Directors, and he is expected to raise the profile of the Maldives in the region’s tourism sector.
Shiuree has served on the PATA Board of Directors since August 2025, and its powerful executive committee, while taking a leading role in guiding the strategic direction of the association, facilitating key regional governance decisions and hosting thought leadership forums in support of the association’s goals.
Boosting the Maldives' Regional Tourism Footprint
As a member of the powerful Executive Board, Shiuree will have direct input into the future strategic direction of PATA including wider regional collaboration, innovation, technology, disruptive trends and youth engagement.
The increased role provides opportunities to work more closely with PATA’s regional network to enable VMC to lead more impactful destination campaigns, regional partnerships and industry engagement. It also provides valuable market intelligence and opportunities for knowledge sharing with tourism stakeholders across the Asia Pacific region.

Through PATA’s regional network, the Maldives will leverage emerging opportunities to diversify and grow its footprint across key regional source markets through greater collaboration with key stakeholders.
The increased presence in the influential forum will also help in the broader conversations around attracting a wider range of travelers from across the Asia-Pacific region to the Maldives as well as enabling deeper engagement with key partners.
Shiuree’s board role will also give him an enhanced regional tourism voice to share the Maldives’ expertise and insights on destination development with tourism stakeholders across the region.
Ibrahim Shiuree’s Rising Profile in Regional Tourism Sector
On 13 June 2024, Shiuree was appointed CEO, Managing Director and Board Director of VMC.
His appointment to the PATA Board of Directors is the latest step in his rising profile in the regional tourism sector and his election to the powerful Executive Board gives him an influential voice in one of the Asia-Pacific region’s most powerful tourism networks.
PATA is a network of tourism agencies, government bodies, hospitality and travel companies, educational institutions and other agencies and stakeholders across the region. It provides an important regional forum for the exchange of knowledge, insights and collaborations to support sustainable tourism development.
