Vijay Kumar is named general manager at The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort

A resort with a focus on health Vijay Kumar has been appointed as the general manager of the Westin Maldives Miriandhoo. Vijay has over 15 years of broad expertise in hospitality operations and management, and his most recent position was as the Complex Director of Finance at the W Maldives and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. Vijay is no stranger to the location.

A driven, practical, and strategic leader, Vijay has held a number of positions within the Finance function at various Marriott International properties in India, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Maldives and completed four hotel launches with success. At The Andaman, A Luxury Collection Resort in Langkawi, Malaysia, where he championed numerous projects and garnered recognition for the hotel, Vijay transitioned from finance to operations as hotel manager in 2018.

"Being a strong advocate of a balanced lifestyle personally, I am excited to come on board this wellness oasis, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, in my first role as a General Manager and lead a team that strives to create experiences that help guests become the best versions of themselves while they are on vacation," Vijay said in a statement following his appointment. "Operations has excited me since the beginning of my career, but since my core competency was in finance, I grew various ranks in finance and there came a chance at The Andaman A Luxury Collection Resort in Langkawi, to head hotel operations, and I grabbed it with a learning spirit," he continued when asked about his decision to return to the field of hotel operations.I've grown to appreciate operations much more than my primary responsibility of crunching numbers. What Vijay enjoys most is when visitors depart as friends with fond memories and a want to return, and when staff members, the show's stars, have the resources necessary and are empowered to provide those custom experiences.

Vijay enjoys reading and cooking in his free time. He enjoys wowing his loved ones and close friends with his culinary prowess and unusual dishes. He and his wife share a love of old history and art, which inspires them to visit sites that are important in history.
