The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives Hosts First Wine Tasting Event with Sommelier from South Africa

The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives, an arrogant flagbearer of Maldivian cuisine, has unveiled its first-ever wine pairing event. Held in partnership with Grape Expectations, the leader in wine and bar teaching and consulting in the Maldives, the special evening marks the opening of the resort’s new wine-focused chain. Guests can look onward to a guided tasting of delicate vintages led by guest sommelier Jordan Dobie from Cape Town, South Africa, follow by a luxurious dinner ready by the resort’s Executive Chef, Nandakumar Dharuman.

To go with The Standard’s playful strength, Dobie’s wine list for the night will champion vibrant European and Australian labels, although the four-course dinner will center on eminent fare such as seafood bruschetta with lobster, slow-roasted pork loin with osso buco ravioli, and Brittany sablé with blackberries and raspberry compote for dessert.

Jordan Dobie’s obsession for oenology blossomed in his local South Africa, leading him to prestigious estate in the Western Cape. Meanwhile, Chef Dharuman, a three-time top gold medalist in the Hotel Asia Culinary Challenge Maldives in 2016 and 2018, specialize in synthesis and molecular cuisine.
