A crowd of V.I.P. from the skydiving world – includes Red Bull aerial athlete Fred Fugen and multiple world record holders David Nimmo – have full to the skies over Ifuru Island Maldives, to initiate the destination’s first enduring skydiving dropzone at Maldives Island.
The newly opened all-inclusive, all-sunset, all-beach resort has collaborated with 21k-jump World Champion skydiver Will Penny and Skydive in Maldives, Ifuru Island to establish the skydiving dropzone. This provides an exhilarating new viewpoint of the picturesque Indian Ocean location for thrill-seekers.
An inspiring group of skydiving experts, including champions, world record holders, and aerial athletes, showcased a series of daring maneuvers to celebrate the official launch. Renowned professional skydiver, base jumper, and wingsuit pilot Fred Fugen, known for his thrilling stunts with Red Bull, took to the skies with his wife Laurence Fugen to execute various stunts. Their performance included descending to the ground in wing suits with a skydiver on each of their backs. Additionally, Australian skydiver Richard Pym flew a record-breaking 300m2 Maldivian flag and a 300m2 Ifuru Island flag during two remarkable jumps, captivating an enthralled audience of dignitaries and resort guests on the private island.
After completing one of his wingsuit flights and landing on the beach, Fred Fugen expressed, "The experience was lovely. It's always a joy to soar above this scenic landscape and it's fantastic to glide the wingsuit in front of all of you, and then land on the beach. What a day. Another wonderful day in Ifuru Island."
Athletes like five-time world champion Raph Coudray, world-record holders David Nimmo and Luis Lopez-Mendez, and Spanish national champion Dani Gallego completed up to 100 jumps per day during the launch week, showcasing a variety of synchronized stunts and solo jumps. Nimsdai Purja MBE, the daring Nepali mountaineer and star of the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, also participated in the skydiving adventure.
The launching of Ifuru Island Maldives' permanent skydiving dropzone was celebrated by World Champion freestyle skydiver and Skydive Maldives Manager Will Penny. He expressed great satisfaction with the achievement and emphasized the team's hard work in preparing for the launch. Penny also highlighted the exceptional team and infrastructure in place, expressing eagerness to welcome visitors to the experience.
Our team consists of highly experienced professionals and tandem instructors. Following a brief safety briefing, guests can be harnessed to an experienced instructor and experience a free fall and canopy ride within 20 minutes. They can then safely land back on earth and have the option to go for a swim in the sea and enjoy the resort's other amenities.
David Lince, an instructor at Skydive Maldives, expressed his desire to elevate happiness to its utmost level as a skydiving instructor. He emphasized the importance of not only having the best team but also the best skydiving location. This aspiration has been realized through the collaboration with Will Penny and Ifuru Island Maldives, resulting in the discovery of an extraordinary place and environment. Consequently, more individuals now have the opportunity to soar through the sky and marvel at the breathtaking views of the Maldivian islands and the Indian Ocean. The act of sharing and spreading happiness has profoundly transformed David's life, making it exceptionally beautiful.
