Dhiffushi Island Villa
There are two guesthouses on Dhiffushi. Dhiffushi Island Villa is one of them. The question every traveller ends up asking is which one to book.

book whichever has availability and responds to your enquiry. The island is the product. Both properties access the same beach, the same reef, the same speedboat jetty to Male. The difference between them is operational how quickly they reply, how well the rooms are maintained on any given visit, whether the activities team has a boat free on your preferred day.
Dhiffushi Island Villa runs clean air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms and Wi-Fi. The staff are local, the knowledge is genuine, and nothing about the booking or arrival process is complicated.

What the Reef Is Actually Like

Every local island guesthouse in the Maldives mentions snorkelling. Here's what Dhiffushi's shore reef specifically offers:

Coral coverage: Moderate to good - better on the eastern side of the island than directly in front of the main beach

Fish diversity: High - parrotfish, angelfish, surgeonfish, and fusiliers in good numbers

Reef sharks: Blacktip reef sharks cruise the shallower areas, particularly early morning and late afternoon

Turtles: Occasional - not every day but regular enough that guests see them several times per week

Visibility: 15–20 metres on calm days, reduced during southwest monsoon

Entry point: Sandy beach entry, no rocks, easy for all levels

Practical Notes Nobody Else Includes

Pack light. The speedboat from Male has limited luggage space. Large suitcases are awkward. Soft bags work better.

The beach designated zone for tourists is clearly marked. Outside this zone dress modestly - shoulders and knees covered when walking through the residential part of the island. This is a local Muslim community.

Meals outside the guesthouse. The local cafe near the harbour serves bajiyaa, gulha, and sweet tea from early morning. Dinner at a local restaurant runs USD 8–15. Better value than guesthouse dining in most cases.

Power cuts happen occasionally on local islands. Brief and rare but worth knowing. Bring a portable charger for phones and cameras.

Insider Tips

Go snorkelling at low tide on the eastern shore. The reef is shallower there and the fish concentration is noticeably higher than the main beach entry. Ask the guesthouse team which direction produces better snorkelling on the day of your visit tidal timing matters.

The 45-minute speedboat from Male runs smoother in the morning. Afternoon crossings can pick up chop. If your flight lands in Male early, aim to transfer to Dhiffushi before noon.

Ask specifically about the reef shark sighting frequency when you check in. The staff track this informally and know which part of the reef is most active on any given week. This information exists nowhere online.

One full day is enough to see everything Dhiffushi offers. If your Maldives trip is 5+ nights, one night here as a local island addition is the right format. Two nights if you genuinely want to decompress and do nothing but swim.
