The Hanifaru Bay Excursion - What to Know
- Daily visitor cap applies. The bay has a maximum visitor quota during peak season. Book the excursion through Hudhuveli as early as possible ideally the day before.
- Snorkelling only - Scuba is banned inside the bay. You float at the surface and watch the mantas below.
- Peak window: June–August. The highest aggregation numbers happen when plankton concentrations peak in the southwest monsoon. Outside this window, mantas are still present but in smaller numbers.
- Early morning departure produces the best encounters before the bay fills with other snorkellers.
- The number of mantas varies daily. A dozen on a quiet day, over a hundred on an exceptional one. Both are genuinely extraordinary.
