The Maldives is balanced to experience substantial growth in its tourism sector as new resorts are set to be developed between 2023 and 2025. According to the data, there are a total of 35 projects in the pipeline during this period, which will add 10,735 beds to the archipelago's accommodation capacity. In 2023 alone, seven projects are expected to begin, contributing a total of 2,588 beds. This expansion is expected to further enhance the Maldives' appeal as a premier tourist destination.
In the upcoming year of 2024, the momentum is set to continue with a remarkable increase in activity. There are 23 projects in the pipeline, which will result in a significant addition of 7,403 beds.
In addition, by the year 2025, there are plans to commence five projects, resulting in the addition of 744 beds. Collectively, this ambitious surge of growth aims to introduce an impressive total of 10,735 beds across the 35 projects, showcasing the Maldives' dedication to meeting the increasing tourism demand and guaranteeing an enhanced hospitality experience for all visitors.
The growth of the hospitality sector in the Maldives, especially in popular atolls such as Kaafu and emerging destinations like Lhaviyani, is evident in this development. By including previously unexplored atolls like Lhaviyani, there is a deliberate attempt to diversify the tourism landscape and provide travelers with the opportunity to discover untouched areas of the Maldives. This expansion not only boosts the economic growth of these regions but also ensures a fairer distribution of tourism benefits throughout the archipelago.
At present, Maldives has 175 resorts that are currently in operation, providing a combined total of 63,085 beds for tourists. The country has already welcomed over 1.6 million visitors in 2023.
