Many tourists to the Maldives put swimming with whale sharks and manta rays at the top of their bucket lists. Snorkeling or diving with these gentle giants is one of the ultimate experiences because they are among the largest fish in the ocean and among the most gorgeous creatures to witness underwater. Fortunately, seeing whale sharks and manta rays in the beach villas Maldives is a breathtaking experience. Knowing where and when to observe them is still a good idea.

For pelagics enthusiasts, the western side of the Maldive atolls offers a greater chance of seeing whale sharks and manta rays from November through April. Due to the high concentration of plankton from May to October, they feed on the eastern edge of the atolls.

One of the top locations to see whale sharks is the South Ari (Alifu Dhaalu) Atoll. The best hotels resorts for sightings are from August to November, but they are superb all year round. Seasonally, December to May is ideal, but January to April is much better. In South Ari from September/October to May, the northeast monsoon may also bring sightings of manta rays (the peak viewing time is February - April). The UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in Hanifaru Bay, Baa Atoll, is another fantastic location to swim with whale sharks and up to 200 manta rays feeding. Only snorkelling is permitted in Hanifaru Bay; diving is not! May through November is the greatest season to see wildlife in this area of beautiful Maldives.
