The Maldives, a sought-after destination, continues its expansion with an influx of new hotels slated to open throughout 2021, bolstering its collection of luxurious beach resorts.

In response to escalating visitor demand, the government has implemented a strategy aimed at significantly increasing the number of hotel rooms in the New Resorts Maldives. As part of this initiative, the president pledged to unveil 50 new resorts within a five-year timeframe, thereby generating 18,000 new jobs.

Since 2013, the Maldives has introduced 30 new resorts. Notably, 11 resorts debuted in 2016, followed by a minimum of 15 in 2017 and 20 properties just last year. Looking ahead, 13 new resorts are set to launch in 2024. This growth trajectory has been remarkable, particularly considering that there were 143 operational resorts when the new government assumed office in November 2018. Today, that figure has swelled to 154.
