Nerulhu Auah, a cultural hamlet devoted to highlighting the Maldivian way of life, has been opened by Conrad Maldives Rangali Island as a celebration of the Maldives' natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Nerulhu Auah, which is situated in the center of Rangali Island, provides visitors with an authentic experience that respects the culture and traditions of the Maldivians.
The Maldivian village is a cornerstone of Hilton's Travel with Purpose Program and is more than just a tourist destination. Its core values include being a community-led program that demonstrates the resort's steadfast dedication to environmentally responsible tourism and a goal to honor the island nation's local communities. Through a variety of activities, displays, dining opportunities, and performances, the village hopes to build a profound understanding for Maldivian culture while giving visitors lifelong memories.
Visitors are immediately transported on a cultural journey after arriving in the village, where local residents proudly display their traditional and cultural traditions to heighten appreciation of the country's heritage and raise awareness of the beneficial effects of responsible tourism.
Highlights of the experience include buffets with a Maldivian theme where ladies from neighboring islands are asked to prepare dishes using fresh local ingredients that are reminiscent of what they would prepare at home. The menu will feature succulent fish curries and freshly grilled seafood, as well as sustainably produced Maldivian lobster, popular short eats, dried tuna, coconut, and special herbs.
The village will also provide a visual feast of traditional arts to highlight the rich craft legacy of the Maldives, which is rooted in long-ago customs that are still practiced today. The majority are made from widely available raw materials found all around the Maldives, including wood, coral, reeds, and palm leaves. Visitors may see the intricate palm leaf weaving in action and take part in workshops where boats are built and coconut coir rope is made. There will also be demonstrations of the production of thatch weaving, coral sculptures, lacquered wooden ornaments, and delicately woven reed mats. It's significant that the arts and crafts on exhibit in the Maldivian hamlet will serve as a reminder of time-honored techniques passed down through the generations.
Finally, the energetic music of Bodu Beru performances will enthrall visitors. Bodu Beru, which translates to "Big Drums," is danceable music. It is practiced on practically all special events in the Maldives, whether it is to commemorate the simple joy of getting together, to celebrate fishermen's successful catches, or at festivals and weddings. The beat starts off soft and soothing before picking up speed and becoming high-energy with quick, captivating movements. Large groups of 10 to 15 men, including drummers, singers, and dancers, typically perform Bodu Beru. Visitors are welcome to watch and participate in the performance in the village, where they will undoubtedly be in awe of the Maldives' rhythmic soul.
