The beautiful coral reefs surrounding Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives are an important part of the biodiversity of the island. In view of the increasing threats to coral reefs worldwide, Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives has introduced a coral restoration program with the hope of helping to heal the house reef.
Coral reefs are some of the most sensitive ecosystems in the world, and they are under threat due to various environmental changes such as increased sea temperatures, coral bleaching, and human activities. These ecosystems are not only home to thousands of species, but they are also important for the well-being of our oceans.
In addition to this, the hotel’s efforts to promote sustainability have been complemented by the proactive role played by Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives in the regeneration of the reefs. This is through the coral restoration programme. The programme was successful in placing 25 coral frames. These frames were later planted with coral fragments obtained from the naturally broken-off coral pieces found in the lagoon or reef environments. Eventually, the coral fragments will develop to form coral colonies. These coral colonies will later contribute to the rebuilding of the reef structures.
This will provide a habitat for all sorts of marine life to thrive. This will contribute to the rebuilding of the balance of the reef environment. The coral restoration programme will provide an opportunity to raise awareness among the staff and guests on the importance of conserving the reefs. By caring for the coral frames, the hotel is contributing to the building of the strength of the reef environment surrounding the hotel. This is while the hotel is contributing to the conservation of the reefs found in the Maldives.
