ilaa Beach Maldives

Ukulhas has a reef shark problem. Not in the way that would concern you in the way where you walk into the water at 6:30am and immediately see blacktip reef sharks cruising the shallows and your heart rate does something involuntary and then you realise they're completely unbothered by you and you spend the next 45 minutes following them around a reef that also has turtles, napoleon wrasse, and more reef fish than you can track.

Ilaa Beach Maldives is one of the guesthouses that puts you on this island.

A Week at Ilaa Beach - How to Use It

Day 1: Arrive, walk the island perimeter, sunset from beach. Day 2: 6:30am reef shark snorkel, afternoon shore snorkel turtles section, evening dolphin watching. Day 3: Outer reef guided snorkel, island cycling, local restaurant dinner. Day 4: 6:30am reef shark snorkel, rest afternoon, night fishing. Day 5: Sandbank trip morning, free beach afternoon, sunset boat. Day 6: 6:30am reef shark snorkel, island hopping day trip. Day 7: Final reef snorkel, depart.

The 6:30am reef shark snorkel appears three times. That's intentional the third session is when you're relaxed enough in the water to actually absorb what you're seeing.

Local island stays offer cultural experiences, peaceful surroundings, and affordable access to Maldives beaches and marine life.
27°C–30°C year-round. No wetsuit required. A rash guard is useful for extended snorkelling sessions primarily for sun protection rather than warmth.
On a very calm, clear day with low wind, blacktip reef sharks are occasionally visible from the shoreline or a jetty in extremely shallow water. But the consistent, close encounters happen in the water. Guests who don't swim miss the primary Ukulhas experience.
