In order to fulfill its commitment to always have a positive impact wherever it sets foot, Dusit International, one of Thailand's top hotel and real estate development companies, has fully embraced "Sustainability" as one of the four key pillars of Dusit Graciousness and launched a new group-wide sustainability initiative called Tree of Life.
The program is initially being introduced to all Dusit Hotels and Resorts worldwide, including 54 properties operating across 19 countries, with the goal of covering the whole Dusit group. Soon, more corporate divisions will join the program, including Dusit Hospitality Education, Dusit Foods, Property Development, and Hospitality-Related Services.
The Tree of Life program, which was developed by the company's Sustainability Committee, contains 31 criteria that are associated with a few Global Sustainable Development Goals as well as industry-specific targets, set over four levels of achievement. It consists of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) components to make sure Dusit properties run as sustainably as they can.
Eight essential criteria are covered in the program's first mandatory level, which is intended to encourage sustainability and ethical behavior throughout the whole Dusit group. The preservation of endangered species, the reduction of single-use plastics, the reduction of food waste, the encouragement of energy efficiency and conservation, the prioritization of staff and customer well-being through strict safety management procedures, the outlawing of trafficking and sexual exploitation, and active participation with local community leaders are some of these criteria.
Depending on their level of performance, hotels and business units receive "leaves" from the Tree of Life. Dusit properties that meet or surpass the requirements of required level one are eligible to advance. Level two requires passing Level One and meeting 18 criteria, Level Three requires passing Level Two and meeting 23 criteria, and Level Four, the program's highest level, requires passing Level Three and meeting 28 requirements. Based on the quantity of "leaves" a property has received, visitors, clients, and business partners can quickly determine what level it has attained.
According to Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, Group CEO of Dusit International, "Implementing the Tree of Life program at Dusit International is not only a strategic move but also a reflection of our deep-rooted values as a company." "This project reaffirms our unshakable dedication to social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and sound governance standards. We intend to set an example, encourage change within our industry, and have a positive, long-lasting impact on the communities where we operate by aligning with global sustainable development goals and sector-specific targets. The Tree of Life program acts as a catalyst for transformative change, ensuring that our properties run sustainably, promote the wellbeing of our visitors and staff, and have a positive impact on society.
The specialized Sustainability Committee of Dusit International, headed by Ms. Suthumpun, will constantly monitor and support the Tree of Life program. This committee will be crucial in monitoring the program's progress and implementation as well as performing regular audits to gauge compliance and pinpoint areas for improvement. In order to keep the program dynamic, adaptable, and in line with developing international standards and best practices, the Sustainability Committee will also proactively design and implement new policies and procedures.
"Through our Tree of Life program, our hotels and resorts will embark on a transformative journey that weaves sustainability into the very fabric of our operations," stated Gilles Cretallaz, COO of Dusit International. Each time a leaf is earned, our resorts reaffirm their dedication to fostering a world where hospitality and nature coexist harmoniously and where every visitor experience leaves a positive, long-lasting impact. Our leaf-based approach acts as a symbol of consolation, guaranteeing that visitors can clearly assess the transformative influence their decisions have and feel secure in the knowledge that they are assisting in creating a more sustainable and affluent world for future generations.
The four pillars of Dusit Graciousness—Service (personalized and gracious), Well-Being (providing wellness experiences outside of the spa), Locality (uniquely connecting visitors with the local community), and Sustainability (social, economic, and environmental)—align with the company's strategy for sustainable business.
The Tree of Life The Magic of Composting Unlocked
Composting is our solution for managing food waste at the Dusit Thani Resort. It's a revolution that drastically reduces our environmental footprint and goes beyond waste reduction.
The effectiveness of compost Compost is the nutritional equivalent of nature's gold; it is dark, wet, and abundant. It is a fertilizer that revitalizes drained soil and is both affordable and chemical-free, creating the ideal environment for plants to thrive.
Composting not only enhances food quality but also fosters a healthier, more sustainable planet by supplying the soil with needed organic ingredients.
Benefits for the environment: Composting lowers emissions of harmful greenhouse gases, recycles nutrients, and even aids in reducing the impacts of drought.
To lessen its environmental impact and improve the health of the surrounding ecology, Dusit Thani Maldives has put in place a number of measures, including:
Energy Efficiency: To considerably reduce its energy usage, the resort has made investments in energy-efficient devices and technology like solar energy systems and LED lighting.
