Maldives Bids for Exclusive Helicopter Services

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation in the Maldives on Monday invite companies to convey attention in providing helicopter services for tourist and emergency evacuations.

The thriving bidder will obtain a 10-year exclusive bond to operate helicopter services countrywide. This includes both tourist transport and helicopter-based air ambulance services. During this phase, no other company will be allowable to control parallel services in the Maldives.

The conclusion to reintroduce helicopter flights follows a cabinet choice in January. In the past, helicopters were used for various purposes, but the service was halted after a chain of accidents. More recently, two helicopters donated by India were used for patient transportation and exploration and rescue operation.

Companies able of providing these services in Maldives are invite to submit proposal. The Transport Ministry confirmed that the operator would be chosen through a viable bid process focused on providing the safest and most trustworthy helicopter services in Maldives.

The reintroduction of helicopter services is probable to advance inter-island tour for tourists and enhance emergency response capability. The target for expressions of interest will precede the proposal submission stage.
