Hurawalhi's manta season runs from November to April. This annual event is a highlight at the resort. During this time, a swarm of manta rays can be seen near the resort's sandbank, a popular feeding spot on the atoll. These magnificent creatures are seen practically every day. Visiting tourists frequently emphasize the sensation of swimming alongside mantas as a unique encounter.
Throughout the manta season, visitors can participate in manta search expeditions supervised by the resort's resident marine biologists. These expeditions not only allow people to watch and learn about the iconic mantas, but also help to research initiatives. The information gathered during these excursions is valuable to the Manta Trust, an organization dedicated to the conservation of this important fish species.
While Hurawalhi is well located to watch manta season, guests can also take excursions to other areas within Lhaviyani Atoll to see manta rays. Fushifaru, known as a cleaning station, is very popular among scuba divers. Mantas are frequently seen at this location early in the season before moving on to their feeding sites. The mantas perform an enthralling display here, floating over coral blocks while cleaner wrasse remove parasites from their gills and bodies. In addition to the resort's sandbank, snorkelers are given the opportunity to explore additional feeding locations within the atoll.
