As part of its ongoing collaboration with internationally renowned oceanographer and environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is developing its environmental programme. The resort, which is renowned for its environmentally friendly infrastructure, will start its Ambassadors of the Environment programme with its youngest visitors before adding new activities.

With the preservation of our planet at its centre, the exclusive project is run by Jean-Michel Cousteau and a group of marine naturalists and top scientists from around the world. Visitors have the opportunity to continue the great Cousteaus' tradition of ocean exploration and work alongside recently created research teams as they use drone technology to monitor the ocean's habitat. The programme encourages viewers to interact with and learn about the natural world while also understanding how their activities might contribute to its preservation for future generations.

In 2023, the resort will add new features for its younger visitors, including:

Microplastic Expedition

A thorough examination of the plastics industry and how it impacts us. Junior visitors will go to the beach and collect sand samples for more research. The aspiring scientists will bring their fieldwork back to the lab, where they will use microscopes to learn about microplastics, how they affect marine life, and how they eventually make their way to humans.

Tiny environmentalists

An interactive exercise that explores the amazing qualities of water by using a wide range of science experiments and activities. finding out why water is interesting, important, and fun. Children will experience the water cycle, the wonders of the water molecule, the effects of human activity on our water systems, and what can be done to preserve this priceless resource.

Aquatic Micro World

Junior visitors will re-join Jean-Michel Cousteau's marine biologists in the field to explore the microcosm of marine life. In order to understand more about these amazing little animals up up and personal, special nets are used to gather plankton at the water's edge.

On Cousteau's most recent visit, the explorer had the opportunity to present findings from three recently found dive sites to resort visitors and locals. Seeing a cast-off fishing net and helping to remove it were some of the activities, while finding a nurse shark community's gestation location was another. Cousteau and the resort staff also spent time with kids and students at the Dhiffushi School on a neighbouring island, in addition to giving a series of motivational presentations, Q&As, and hosted dives for The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands guests. Cousteau wants to inspire the region's future generations to promote the preservation of our natural world through sharing his life narrative, most recent work, and research.

Coments from Cousteau. It was a dream come true to introduce the Ambassadors of the Environment programme to The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. The fact that visitors of all ages can take part in cutting-edge programmes selected by our naturalists makes me feel honoured and pleased. Our mission is to uplift and encourage people to see the value of preserving the natural environment that makes our world habitable for humans and all other animals. We always preach the same thing: "Protect our natural resources."

He goes on. This programme is one of the most exciting and significant ones we have ever developed because of the robustness and diversity of the coral reefs and the sustainable infrastructure of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands.

The resort's Ambassadors of the Environment programme, which is dedicated to environmental education and is intended for both adults and children, launched in 2021 and has since attracted a progressive research community. Its partnerships are leading novel environmental projects ranging from the protection of endangered species like sea turtles to the monitoring of ocean trash with cutting-edge conservation technologies. The knowledge-sharing portion of the programme tries to persuade viewers and communities to live more sustainably, with the idea that the future of the earth depends mostly on its most vulnerable citizens.
