• Thoddoo has active turtle nesting sites. The island's beaches see hawksbill turtle nesting activity, which means a resident population lives in the surrounding water year-round.
• Morning snorkelling produces the most consistent encounters. Turtles are most active feeding on the reef in the 6:30–9am window before boat and snorkeller traffic increases.
• Approach matters. Slow, calm movement at the surface. Don't chase, don't dive toward them. Turtles that aren't startled will stay on the reef for 10–20 minutes while you watch.
• The reef on the eastern side of the island tends to have higher turtle frequency than the main beach entry. Ask the guesthouse which entry point is currently most productive.
